DESTINATION: Cape Town, South Africa W/ Jill Paider
Cape Town is surrounded by stunning mountains and two oceans, making it one of the most picturesque cities in the world. As a destination, it has the rare combination of natural beauty, world-class gastronomy, culture, arts and a beautifully diverse population.
Cape Town is home to world-class modern architecture that encompasses the landscape and sea. I initially went here to shoot luxury homes, many of which are featured in The Book of Modern Interiors.
Food & Wine
One of the highlights of visiting Cape Town is the fabulous food and wine. Amazing seafood, local favorites, and signature wines that rarely get exported make this a feast like no other.
Getting There & Away: Direct flights from major U.S. cities to London and Amsterdam. From there it is about an 11.5-hour flight direct to Cape Town. Considerable travel time, but well worth it.
Budgeting Tips: Travel is a great value for U.S. currency holders. Cape Town offers a wide range of wonderful small-group tours at very reasonable prices.
Packing Considerations: Daytime temperatures in summer can get quite warm, with evenings cooling down considerably. Dress in layers and also bring appropriate gear if you anticipate hiking, mountain biking, or surfing, particularly for Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope.
Good To Know: Safety can be a concern in South Africa. It’s important to be vigilant, particularly at beaches and in the evenings. Use a driver or car service when going out at night.
