5 Things: A Travel Inspo Roundup
You know that feeling you get when you just get back from a trip and you’re already looking forward to your next one? Yes, that’s me — but I actually have this feeling every day, especially when I get major FOMO from surfing the internet and social media. No matter what triggers the travel bug for you, it’s safe to say there’s plenty of places that are either already on your bucket list, or places you never knew you’d care to visit because you didn’t know they existed. Here are my top five inspirations that are making me want to pack a bag and book a flight ASAP — or dream about it.
#1 Photographer, Chris Burkard
California-native, Chris Burkard, picked up his first camera at a Goodwill auction and hasn’t put it down since. He became a freelance photographer with a client list with the likes of Patagonia, National Geographic, Surfer Magazine and many more. Chris travels the entire world to document the most breathtaking places at the peak of their seasons and you can’t help but be reminded of the quote from the Disney movie, Up, “Adventure is out there”.
#2 Monsoon by Amber Mark
Amber Mark’s voice is reminiscent of the sultry pipes of Sade, in my opinion. When a friend introduced me to this song, I immediately loved the pacing of it, learned that it was actually about her late mother but then immediately wanted to find out if there was a music video for it. Although the lyrics reflected her grief, Amber showed how to celebrate the beauty of life in this music video, shot in one of her homes, India. It gives me chills every time I watch it both because of the emotion and also the freedom of LIVING life at its’ fullest.
#3 Hicksville Pines Bud & Breakfast
Somewhere in the town of Idyllwild, California lies the Hicksville Bud & Breakfast, probably one of the quirkiest getaways ever. There are 10 unique rooms you can choose from like, Room #420, The Honeymoon Suite (with a heart-shaped hot tub), and The Dolly (a tribute to country western icon, Dolly Parton). Each room is fairly priced and seems to be 100% worth an experience you’ll never forget.
PS - Weddings are very popular here.
#4 VICELAND’s States of Undress w/ Hailey Gates
Journalist, Hailey Gates travels around the world to discover global fashion ideals, issues, trends and more. Before you think this is just another travel show, I want to express how personal States of Undress is able to get with models, makers, designers and the actual culture of fashion within each country. Each episode maximizes the idea that fashion is a privilege and people all over the world use it to express not only their individuality, but their beliefs on what beauty means to them. Through States of Undress, we’re able to discover what “style” means in a global sense and how that effects what we wear, how and why.
#5 Pierre Cardin’s Palais Bulles aka, “Bubble Palace”
Once upon a time, Hungarian architect, Antti Lovag built a beautiful “holiday” home for fashion designer, Pierre Cardin. This futuristic oasis, carefully placed on the French Riviera near Cannes, France houses 10 bedrooms, each decorated by hand-picked artists, and even a 500-seat outdoor amphitheater. The “Bubble Palace” has hosted many events and fashion shows, while I first discovered (and drooled over) this place through Dior’s Cruise 2016 show. This should definitely give you a reason to find someone who knows someone, who’s in contact with someone, who can find out how to get you invited to a private event at Palais Bulles and book a trip to the French Riviera stat!
