Podcasts We Can't Stop Listening To
Whether we're hopping on the freeway during rush hour, sitting at our desks diligently getting through our day, or hoping our flight isn't delayed at the airport, we're filling our minds with words that inspire us by those who encourage us. At CALPAK, we're all music heads around here (see our March playlist) and we do love a good book, but we obsess over thought-provoking podcasts. So, here's a list of our favorites and why you too won't stop listening to them.
The Goop Podcast
New to the podcast world but not new to the contribution of lifestyle and wellness ideals, The Goop Podcast started off their first episode with Gwyneth Paltrow interviewing Oprah Winfrey. Pause. That episode alone is one you can play over and over again because of course, Oprah never fails to drop gem after gem.
How I Built This
We love listening to women and men in all types of industries, but recently we've been focused on the food-related episodes and it just makes us want to quit everything we're doing and make ice cream for the rest of our lives (see Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams: Jeni Britton Bauer episode). Seriously speaking though, Guy Raz is a great host and we feel as blown away as he sounds by the stories of these entrepreneurs.
Everyone who sits down to chat with Hillary Kerr, co-founder of My Domaine and Who What Wear, encourages all of us to not think of our careers so one-dimensionally. This podcast is about switching up your journeys into something that's been our calling all along — we just have to go through life’s many adventures before we get there. She interviews Mandy Moore, Jen Atkin and Jessica Alba; just to name a few and with each interview, become more and more determined to explore another side of our creativity and discover a side of ourselves we didn’t know we had.
Short Story Long
If you've ever watched Rob Dydrek's Fantasy Factory, you might remember Drama, Rob's cousin, who was also his assistant—often stressed and bullied. Since then, Drama has successfully spread his own wings with Young & Reckless and continues to do so with his podcast, Short Story Long. Here, he spends time with inspiring individuals who share their journey to greatness starting from the beginning of their story. Episode #50 with Kevin Stirdivant is the winner!
Ask Me Another
This is the perfect podcast for a long roadtrip with friends when you don't have anything to talk about. The structure of the episode keeps you on your toes the entire time. One minute you're listening to a pun-related game, and then the next minute you're listening to the life stories of your favorite actors, actresses, activists and comedians.
Refinery 29's Unstyled
Unstyled is on their second season and started 2018 off with the beautiful Yara Shahidi, but their roster from 2017 goes from Sophia Bush to Miranda Kerr to Leandra Medine and we're obsessed. Global Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder of Refinery 29, Christene Barberich, chats, laughs and gets real with these inspiring women covering all bases within life, love and work.
What It Takes
From the American Academy of Achievement, these intimate interviews take you into the personal lives of the pioneers in public service, arts, sports, business, science and technology. Oprah has a two-part episode and the episode with Lauryn Hill was relevant then, relevant today and will be relevant forever. Convinced yet?
2 Dope Queens
Two BFF's based in New York, Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams are hilarious and unapologetic comedians who dive into the raw and personal sh*t about sex, romance, race and everything in between. Their honesty is a must for today's society as they pave the way for conversations that are often too taboo to talk about, yet are extremely important. They truly are two dope queens leading the way.
